#6 - SUNDAY MORNINGS

.
.

A piece of chocolate filled pastry to go down
with a double cup of my favorite joe; the newspaper
spread out on the bed, sorted into groups -
main/entertainment/travel, house/car/want ads, coupons to clip;
Debussy mellowing his way through the iPod’s speakers;
the sun’s silent aubade filtering through the windows…
.
and Baby, snuggled into the crook of my neck, napping,
oblivious to the intermittent rustle of paper, the iterative
arc and turn as I read each pressed page;
and me, feeling like a placid sunset
at the end of a summer’s day.

  1. Chocolate-filled pastry, Debussy (on the iPod, no less!), "sun's silent aubade", snuggling with someone you love--yum! You know how to spend a Sunday.

  3. :-)) thanks for reading - this has become pretty much a standard ritual since I retired - although the type of pastry and coffee changes now and then - and pretty much my fave time of the week now.

  4. Oh bliss!
    The New York Times I presume?
    And who is that Baby -- someone hot, or cuddly, or a sweet pet?
